Types

Various types of wines are produced in the province of Reggio Emilia. For clarity, they can be divided into the following categories:

Emilia IGT

The typical geographical indication "Emilia" or "dell'Emilia," accompanied or not by the specifications provided for by these production regulations, is reserved to partially fermented musts and wines (Alionza, Ancellotta o Lancellotta, Barbera, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Fortana, Lambrusco, Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Malvasia bianca, Merlot, Montù, Pignoletto, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Pinot nero, Riesling italico, Sangiovese, Sauvignon, Trebbiano) that respond to the conditions and requirements indicated below.

CHARDONNAY
Grape varieties: Chardonnay, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

LAMBRUSCO BIANCO
Grape varieties: Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Maestri, alone or together, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.
The grapes must be vinified white.

MALVASIA
Grape varieties: Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

MALVASIA BIANCA
Grape varieties: Malvasia Bianca, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

PINOT GRIGIO
Grape varieties: Pinot Grigio, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

PINOT BIANCO
Grape varieties: Pinot Bianco, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

RIESLING ITALICO
Grape varieties: Riesling Italico, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

SAUVIGNON
Grape varieties: Sauvignon, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

TREBBIANO
Grape varieties: Trebbiano or Romagnolo, Trebbiano Toscano, alone or together, for a minimum of 85%. Other white grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

ANCELLOTTA OR LANCELLOTTA
Grape varieties: Ancellotta or Lancellotta for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

BARBERA
Grape varieties: Barbera, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

CABERNET
Grape varieties: Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, alone or together, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

CABERNET FRANC
Grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

FORTANA
Grape varieties: Fortana, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

LAMBRUSCO
Grape varieties: Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Maestri, alone or together, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

MERLOT
Grape varieties: Merlot, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

PINOT NERO
Grape varieties: Pinot Nero, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.

SANGIOVESE
Grape varieties: Sangiovese, for a minimum of 85%. Other red grape varieties, non-aromatic, recommended and/or authorised in the respective provinces, can be present up to a maximum of 15%.
